How to Properly Wash Your Towels

Did you know you shouldn't wash your towels with fabric softener? I would even go further and say to not use detergent. I am going to tell you the best way that I have found to keep our towels soft, fluffy and always smelling fresh.

All you need are two items ... and you most likely already have them.

White vinegar & Baking soda

Before I tell you the simple process, let's cover a couple of important things first.

  • Wash towels in their own load. Towels, towels, only towels.

  • Don't overstuff. Towels, like your clothes, want room to breath...give them space.

  • Choose the right cycle & temperature. Use 2 shorter cycles to equal 1 long cycle. Use hot for light-colored towels and warm for dark-colored towels.

  • Make sure they dry completely. Don't let them sit in the dryer still damp!

Double-Wash Your Towels

This method helps reduce the use of excess laundry products that are holding your towels back from their greatest potential. They will feel fluffy and without that icky mildew smell.

Wash 1: Add towels to the washer, but instead of using detergent {and especially not fabric softener}, pour 1/2 - 1 cup of white vinegar to detergent dispenser. Do a quick wash in a warm/hot cycle and let it run.

Wash 2: Keep the towels in, add 1/4 - 1/2 cup of baking soda directly to the washer. I also like to add some scent booster beads to this cycle {but completely not necessary! Do a quick wash in a warm/hot cycle and let it run.

Dry as normal. Trust me, you will thank me later. Let me know if you have any towel washing tricks!
