This project is not only easy to do, but it's also one of a kind and easily adaptable.

Materials

  • Wood board - I used a 3/4" Maple Plywood

  • 1 1/8" x 8' Pine Wood Lattice Molding

  • Wood Glue

  • Brad Nails

  • Stain

Tools

  • Jigsaw

  • Brad Nailer

First thing is to draw an outline of the pumpkin. You can easily free hand it, but I am not best at free hand, so I used a projector to project a picture of the pumpkin onto my wood board.

I then used a jigsaw to cut out the outer edge. From there, I drew the inner edge as well as outlined the horizontal and vertical grids, using the jigsaw to cut. To help the wood from splitting, I used tape on top. Masking tape is the best because you can still see your line easily through. For the inner parts of the grid, I drilled a hole in the corner to be able to fit the jigsaw through.

This was the hardest and most challenging part as it took time and precision.

But the next part was the most fun and where the project really comes to life, adding in the lattice.

On the backside of the pumpkin, I started by adding the first piece of lattice in the middle, splitting the rectangle diagonally, using wood glue and brad nails to secure. Once the first piece was secured, I worked my way to the outer edges. To help with spacing, I used a scrap piece of lattice in between each one that I secured.

Once I finished adding the lattice pieces in one direction, I did the same thing on top for the other direction.

The final step was to stain. I would highly recommend staining before attaching all your pieces because trying to stain all the crevices is a doozy. I do it first and make the mistakes so you don't have to ;)

And that's all there is to it!

Although this projects main focus is a pumpkin, it can easily be adapted to other holidays and seasons. For example, you could make a Tree to turn it into a Christmas decoration. Or, you could do a simple rectangle or circle to make the perfect wall decor and add to your home year round. The possibilities are endless!

Let me know if you try it out! Thank you for being here. Mean it!
